6 Dog Friendly Beaches in Devon & Cornwall

Posted by SWHP 23rd May 2019

We all love a visit to the beach during our holiday, and your family pooch is no exception! The beach offers the ideal place for a game of fetch and a good doggy paddle. Each of our holiday parks are dog friendly, with facilities that both you and your four legged friend can enjoy including dog walking areas and dog friendly cafes and restaurants.
Here is a run-down of our favourite beaches across Devon & Cornwall where dogs are welcome all year round!

1. Ness Cove Beach, Shaldon
Our closest dog friendly beach to Coast View, Ness Cove is accessed through an original Smugglers Tunnel. The shingle beach is generally quiet and offers stunning views of the Jurassic coastline. Dogs are welcome all year round however access is limited to due to the tunnel and steps.

2. St Marys Bay, Brixham
St Marys Bay is a delightfully secluded sandy cove in higher Brixham. Located just south of Berry Head, the beach benefits from beautiful panoramic views of the English Riviera. With over 100 steps, St Marys Bay is harder to reach than most beaches in the area, however being enclosed at both ends means it is the perfect place for a long game of fetch and ideal for swimming!

3. Slapton Sands, Slapton

Extremely picturesque and popular, Slapton Sands plays an important part in the survival of some of the UK’s rarest flora and fauna. Close to the villages of Slapton and Torcross, there is an abundance of activities and amenities to keep you busy throughout the day. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Slapton Sands is a great destination at any time of the year.

4. Trebarwith Strand, Tintagel
Just 3.8 miles from Juliots Well you will find the beautiful Trebarwith Strand Beach. Now owned by the National Trust, the beach at Trebarwith Strand is a long stretch of golden sand, extending for almost a mile in low tide. Along the length of the beach, you can find several caves set in the high cliffs, perfect for the avid explorer! Just next door you can pop in to the charming Port William pub (also dog friendly!) which makes an ideal viewing place for some stunning Cornish sunsets.

5. Hemmick Beach, Boswinger
A secret, sandy beach just 15 minutes’ walk from Seaview Gorran Haven, Hemmick Beach is ideal for keen walkers. With plenty of tiny coves to explore in low tide, breathtaking views and easy access to the South West Coastal Path, Hemmick Beach is a beautifully peaceful and a dream for families. The beach is reached by a narrow country road, so access is something to bear in mind when visiting.

6. Mawgan Porth, Newquay
Situated mid-way between Padstow and Newquay, Mawgan Porth offers a beautiful west facing beach, stunning scenery, wonderous walks and superb food and accommodation to suit everyone’s taste and pocket. Walk along the long, sandy beach at low tide and explore the hidden caves or take a stroll along the South West Coastal Path to beautiful and legendary Bedruthan Steps. With a range of entertainment, the Mawgan Porth is a hit with both man and dog!
